Inspired by my friend Paul Lecrone’s Dumpster Fire newsletter, I’m sending out this edition of Startup Salad late on Sunday evening. Paul said he gives himself an hour to “whip up” his Sunday newsletter. I’m giving myself a much shorter deadline ~25 minutes, because I want to kiss my kid before he goes to bed.
So, let’s jump right into it!
Lately, my time and attention have been stretched incredibly thin. From working on the Peachy launch to finishing up my last semester of law school, life has been crazy.
But amidst the crazy, I’ve consumed some great things and I thought it would be nice to share them. I don’t know if you will like the things I share. That’s okay. I’m kind of a weird guy, and the real point of doing this isn’t actually to become the world’s “next great curator” (I don’t actually believe in the value of curating that much…), but really as more of an exercise to help myself remember and think back on the most important pieces of content that I consume.
So, that brings me to the podcast I listened to this morning: Not Boring.
Usually, I’m blown away by Packy’s amazing write-ups, but this one was a guest post by Ali Montag describing “Martha Stewart’s Reign of Relevancy.”
WOAH.
It was amazing. Yeah, Martha Stewart did some bad things. To be honest, I don’t know much about that. But her story is INSANE. She truly is a titan of industry. I can’t recommend checking this out enough.
Next, Outliers with Daniel Scrivner.
I particularly enjoyed two episodes: #27 with Rob Petrozzo of Rally, and #28 with photographer Kevin Kelly. I think Rob is building something really amazing at Rally, and I really enjoyed hearing his story.
Kevin’s interview was absolutely wild. He took ~200,000 pictures and narrowed it down to something like 5,000 for his latest book collection–a series of three photo books that will take you HOURS to flip through. It was impressive to me to think that somebody could put what amounts to about twice as many years as I’ve been alive into a project. Really makes me think that what I do this year matters a lot less than what I do this decade, you know?
Finally, Creative Elements.
Hosted by Jay Clouse, this podcast’s interviews with Jordan Harbinger and Tim Urban were really meaningful to me. Tim Urban reminds me a bit of Kevin Kelly, really focused on quality over quantity. Something that is especially interesting for a new “creator” like myself.
Jay’s interview with Jordan Harbinger was particularly enjoyable because Jordan’s whole “thing” is relationship building, something that has proven to be particularly important in my life. I pride myself on being a “connector,” by always helping connect my friends. I learned that I need to focus more on making sure I am maintaining friendships. He recommended a system of texting like 5 people each day. Going to give that a try!
I also enjoyed this short video from the aforementioned Paul Lecrone:

You should check it out.
These photos are absolutely amazing to me:

Here’s a song that came out this week that I liked:
It’s alt-rock-ish, if you’re into that.
Okay, folks. Time is running out. Gotta throw some links in and hit send.
If you liked this, please reply to this and let me know.
Hope you all have a great week. Next time we chat, I should be all graduated from law school, so that’s cool.
Bonvoyage - IDK if that’s a word, but I like it.
Nate.
